i can’t get through – Brenda Luong

August 4 – September 8

Prairie Crocus Gallery

Sometimes it can be difficult to make it through when there are barriers that work against us. How difficult it can be to come out of a hard place and how isolating you can feel. The feeling of being on the outside… the wrong side. The feeling of the impossibility to change your circumstances. It often feels like breaking through comes with ever changing terms and conditions that feel hard to reach and maintain. No matter what you do, it is not enough. How much easier it seems to build our own walls up or pack up and go where the terms and conditions are next to none, than it is to face them head on.

Brenda Luong (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus on ceramics currently based in Moh’kins’tsis, Treaty 7 Territory (Calgary, AB). She holds a degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine. Her work is reflective of both personal and professional experiences, continually striving to find ways to merge her art practice and her professional background with community in mind.
