“ If the work of an artist exists in relation to the work of other artists, then a discourse on the exchange occurring in a community should have some currency in contemporary practices of art making.”
Michael Coolidge, 2005
I am building a body of work derived from objects collected by people situated mainly within the arts community. I have constructed a list of six materials in which I am asking individuals to collect for me. The list is loose therefore it leaves room for personal choice. Each individual involved is asked to consider themselves and the idea of preciousness in relation to the materials they choose. With the materials collected I am working to create pieces that I feel reflect the individual collectors. The art objects created in this project house the interactions that take place between these individuals and myself. I am interested in the exchange that takes place between my collectors myself and the community interaction that is explored in this work.

Ocean Forstner is a Calgary-based visual artist. A recent graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design, Forstner has participated in numerous exhibitions within the community. Her work explores private vs. public interactions, social dynamics, and the exchange of ideas. For Stride's +15 Window Space, Forstner plans to use raw materials provided to her by artists on Stride’s Board of Directors, culled from a list she created, to celebrate and mythologize their careers and personalities.
