EXHIBITION TEXT

“When not worn, the garments become a hollow shell, a residue of previous space. Through a series of dress bags, I explore the dimensions and characteristics of the absent piece.”
-Jenifer Darbellay

“Choosing to stitch by hand allows me to practice and celebrate what I feel is a re-discovery of the familiar.”
-Valerie Dowhaniuk

“The work I create is inspired by movement, play, and fantasy. Rick woven textures and layers of dye are used to create depth, resulting in a dynamic atmosphere.”
-Cherie Sexsmith

“My work is influenced in the art and style of the late medieval era, reflected by a fascination with romantic imagery, style and personal fantasies that relate to that time period. I am concerned with using and making reference to rich opulent materials, surfaces, and colours to evoke a past era that remains a part of contemporary romantic views.”
-Nichola Waltho

“My art practice is focused on self-portraits. I use woods and metals to represent natural organic elements alongside industrial and materialistic materials to represent modern technology.”
-Amber Bear Robe

“The unique relationships that human beings have socially and with their environment inspire me to identify these relationships through the language of pattern. I recontextualize the occurence of markings and patterns in such a way as to question human values.”
-Shelley Fox
