/Nearly as Close as Oneself -
NEARLY AS CLOSE AS ONESELF is a brief intersection of Megan Fen and Nicole Haywood's parallel research, echoing the aesthetics of a museological diorama. Utilizing custom measuring tools and devices, each artist engages in a futile pursuit to contact that which withdraws into the ontological shadows. The exhibition space materializes a non-environment that is both wild and domestic, a tableau depicting an encounter between entangled seekers momentarily tied together in a double dream. Straddling a line between incredibly close and impossibly distant, each artist turns inward towards individual strategies of simultaneously knowing and estranging the self.

MEGAN FEN is a Calgary based artist currently attaining her BFA at the Alberta College of Art and Design. Fen’s work draws from both her religious experiences and her affinity for science fiction, as her practice seeks to occupy a liminal space within quantum theories and supernatural events.
NICOLE HAYWOOD is a Calgary based artist and recent graduate from the Alberta College of Art + Design. Haywood’s practice consists of explorations of subjectivity, the complexities and intersections of memory, mourning, and existentialism relating to personal identity. With a multimedia approach, Haywood constructs expressive, dynamic compositions reflecting the confusion, curiosity, and disorientation that characterize the human experience.
CHLOE FROST is a Calgary based interdisciplinary artist, aspiring curator and emerging writer, current intern at Stride Gallery and student at Alberta College of Art + Design. This is her first experience in curating an exhibition.
