/JORDAN SCHINKEL - A YEAR IN A MINUTE

/exhibition information/A YEAR IN A MINUTE is a monument to personal histories lost in the rifts of time. Bodily representations of liminal moments have been documented with crude drawings on monolithic plaster artifacts. Where history preserved stories of perfect valiance in battle and ascension through detailed reliefs and friezes, A YEAR IN A MINUTE's triptych holds on to a more common, less honoured human narrative - one of ambiguous intent, ambivalence of time, and uncertainty, but occurring anyways. Mixing absurd and melancholic motifs in the drawings, the slabs themselves are prototype relics of cyclical and transient events in everyday life. back to top/Artist Bio/JORDAN SCHINKEL l is an artist living in Calgary, Alberta. He is currently attending his fourth year at the Alberta College of Art + Design in pursuit of a BFA in Drawing. His work explores a variety of media – including video, drawing, and photography – but follows thematic and methodological threads throughout each. Through the independent or intersected use of these media Schinkel focuses on the language of both abstract and architectural imagery in correlation with human form, likeness, or vestige. |
